About Dr. Edith Garcia

Hi, I’m Dr. Edith Garcia, a licensed psychologist practicing in California, and I’m glad you’re here.

Although each person’s story is unique, I believe there are universal aspects of being human. We all experience moments of joy, loss, fear, hope, and connection. At the same time, our families, cultures, communities, and life experiences shape how we learn to survive, connect, and understand ourselves.

Some experiences leave imprints that are difficult to put into words. Not all wounds are visible.

Sometimes they show up quietly as anxiety, perfectionism, self-doubt, over-responsibility, emotional reactivity, or patterns in relationships that feel painful but familiar.

What once developed as protection may now feel limiting or exhausting.

I believe therapy is not about “fixing” who you are, but about understanding how your experiences shaped you and intentionally deciding what continues to serve you in the present.

I work with adults who often appear capable, thoughtful, and composed on the outside, yet internally experience anxiety, depression, relational difficulties, or the lasting effects of earlier life experiences.

Many are high-achieving and deeply self-aware, but still find themselves caught in cycles of overthinking, emotional overwhelm, or feeling “not enough.”

My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, relational, and grounded in evidence-based practice. Depending on your needs, I may integrate tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) when helpful. I also work from a developmental perspective, exploring how early experiences continue to shape present-day beliefs, emotions, and patterns of relating.

Alongside practical skill-building, we may engage in deeper insight-oriented work that supports emotional regulation, strengthens identity, and fosters more secure and meaningful connections.

As a Mexican American psychologist, I understand how culture, family expectations, generational narratives, privilege, and marginalization can influence mental health in both visible and subtle ways. Our identities are deeply intertwined with our psychological well-being.

I approach this work through a multicultural lens, honoring the complexity of each individual’s lived experience with curiosity, humility, and care.

I offer therapy in both English and Spanish, recognizing that language is deeply connected to identity, emotion, and lived experience. Being able to express yourself in the language that feels most natural to you can be an important part of feeling seen and understood.

Therapy with me is collaborative and intentionally paced. I strive to create a space where clients feel supported and can explore difficult experiences with openness, respect, and care. While reducing symptoms is often an important part of therapy, the broader goal is deeper clarity, self-understanding, and a stronger sense of agency in your life.

Training and Background

I earned my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles.

My clinical training includes experience in university counseling centers, school-based settings, afterschool programs serving youth with more intensive clinical needs, and vocational training programs serving youth and young adults ages 16–24. Across these environments, I worked with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and developmental backgrounds.

My work is guided by ethical integrity, ongoing professional development, and a deep respect for the responsibility that comes with this profession.

I am committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care that honors both the science of psychology and the complexity of your lived experience.

Beginning therapy is a meaningful and often vulnerable step. If my approach resonates with you, I would be honored to support you with care, intention, and respect for your unique experiences. I invite you to schedule a complimentary consultation to see whether working together feels like a good fit.
